Cleveland Clinic places third globally in Newsweek’s 2026 World’s Best Hospitals ranking
Cleveland flagship rises to No. 3 worldwide as three affiliated hospitals enter the global Top 250
Cleveland Clinic was ranked the world’s No. 3 hospital in the 2026 edition of the World’s Best Hospitals list, a global benchmarking project produced with data partner Statista. The ranking places the Cleveland-based institution behind Mayo Clinic’s Rochester, Minnesota, campus at No. 1 and Toronto General–University Health Network at No. 2.
In the same 2026 global Top 250 list, three other hospitals connected to the Cleveland Clinic system were also included: Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi (No. 119), Cleveland Clinic Fairview Hospital in Cleveland (No. 228) and Cleveland Clinic Weston Hospital in Florida (No. 246).
How the 2026 ranking is built
The 2026 methodology evaluates more than 2,500 hospitals across 32 countries and awards “Top 250” recognition to the highest-performing institutions worldwide. Hospitals are scored using four categories that combine professional and patient-centered inputs. The weighting structure emphasizes hospital quality metrics (40%), peer recommendations (30% national plus 5% international), patient experience (18.5%), and implementation of patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) (6.5%).
The ranking organizers also note that country-level scores are designed for comparisons within a given country because source data for patient experience and quality metrics vary by nation. The global Top 250 list, meanwhile, is derived from hospitals’ national standing and the volume of international recommendations.
Where Cleveland Clinic stands in the United States list
In the related 2026 United States ranking, Cleveland Clinic’s main campus was listed as No. 2 nationally, with Mayo Clinic–Rochester at No. 1. Massachusetts General Hospital ranked No. 3 in the U.S. list. Several other Cleveland Clinic hospitals also appeared in the U.S. table, including Fairview, Weston, Akron General, Hillcrest, Avon and Marymount.
System footprint reflected in multiple ranked sites
The presence of multiple Cleveland Clinic locations on the global list underscores the system’s multi-region structure, which includes hospital campuses in Ohio, Florida and international sites. Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi was also identified as the top-ranked hospital within the United Arab Emirates in the 2026 set of country-based results.
- Global rank (2026): Cleveland Clinic No. 3
- U.S. rank (2026): Cleveland Clinic No. 2
- Other Top 250 sites (global): Abu Dhabi No. 119; Fairview No. 228; Weston No. 246
“Our model has endured for generations – a global team, centered around the patient, impacting as many lives as possible,” CEO and President Tom Mihaljevic said in a statement issued with the ranking announcement.
The 2026 result follows Cleveland Clinic’s No. 2 global placement in the 2025 edition of the same project, reflecting a one-position change year over year within this specific ranking framework.
