Commuter Alert: Wintry Weather and Transit Delays Impact Cleveland

Cleveland commuters are facing a challenging morning this Tuesday, February 10, 2026, as a combination of wintry precipitation and significant public transit adjustments impact the region. The Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority (GCRTA) and the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) have several active alerts that may affect your travel time throughout the day.

Public Transit: Red Line and HealthLine Updates

Those relying on rail service should prepare for potential wait times. The GCRTA recently issued a crisis alert for the Red Line, which has been operating on a reduced 30-minute frequency due to the impact of extreme cold on the rail fleet. While service was scheduled to stabilize, commuters are advised to check the Transit app for real-time arrivals as temperatures remain near freezing. Additionally, the RTA Audit Committee is scheduled to meet today at the main headquarters on West 6th Street.

  • Red Line: Potential 30-minute headways due to cold-weather equipment strain.
  • HealthLine: Riders may notice a continued security presence near Public Square following an overnight incident involving a stabbing on a HealthLine bus. GCRTA confirms a suspect is in custody and service is running normally.
  • Blue and Green Lines: Currently operating on regular schedules.

Major Highway Construction & Lane Restrictions

Major rehabilitation projects continue to constrict several of the city's primary arteries. On I-90, the large-scale rehabilitation project between Hilliard Boulevard and West Boulevard remains a primary source of congestion. I-90 Eastbound is currently reduced to three lanes between Hilliard and Alger Road for pavement replacement. In the westbound lanes, drainage repairs near McKinley Road are also causing lane restrictions.

  • I-77 at Wallings Road: The bridge replacement project has closed Wallings Road between West Mill and Mill Road. All I-77 southbound entrance and exit ramps at Wallings are currently closed; drivers should detour using Pleasant Valley Road.
  • I-271 Northbound: Lane restrictions and traffic shifts are in place between Shaker Boulevard and Brainard Road for interchange improvements.
  • SR 176 (Jennings Freeway): The Northbound exit ramp to West 14th Street and Steelyard Commons remains restricted for bridge deck replacement.
  • Snow Road: State Route 237 over Snow Road has lane width reductions and shoulder restrictions in effect for bridge work.

Airport Congestion and Weather Hazards

Travelers heading to Cleveland Hopkins International Airport (CLE) should allow extra time for passenger drop-offs. Construction on the Lower Roadway for a tunnel rehabilitation project has restricted pickups and drop-offs on the Arrivals level to doors 5, 6, and 7 only. To avoid heavy congestion, the airport recommends utilizing the Upper Roadway (Departures) when possible.

Finally, motorists should use caution as a wintry mix of rain and snow is forecast throughout the day. With temperatures expected to fluctuate between 31 and 44 degrees, bridges and overpasses may become slippery. Visibility is expected to decrease during the evening commute as snow showers become more frequent.
