Second Lyft driver killed in three days in Cleveland as investigators seek public assistance in both cases

What investigators have confirmed
Cleveland police are investigating the fatal shooting of a Lyft driver on the city’s East Side after officers responded to a reported crash late Sunday night, Feb. 9, 2026. Police were called to the 10200 block of Rosehill Avenue at about 9:50 p.m. and found a vehicle that had struck a guardrail. Emergency medical crews found the driver suffering from a gunshot wound; he was transported to a local hospital, where he later died.
The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner identified the victim as Antoine Magel Latham, of Cleveland. Police have said the Cleveland Police Homicide Unit is handling the investigation and that no arrests had been announced as of Monday.
Connection to a second killing within days
The Rosehill Avenue homicide is the second killing of a Lyft driver in Cleveland within a three-day span, a timeframe that has intensified investigative focus on the circumstances surrounding each case and the available leads.
In the other incident, police have described a fatal shooting involving a Lyft driver as occurring shortly after midnight at the intersection of Olympia and Wayside roads on Cleveland’s East Side. In that case, a rider was also shot and taken to a hospital. Police indicated the shooting appeared consistent with a drive-by attack.
What remains unknown
Investigators have not publicly detailed a suspect description or vehicle information tied to the Rosehill Avenue shooting, and police have not publicly stated whether the two incidents are related. Authorities have also not released information indicating whether Latham was on an active trip at the moment he was shot, or whether a rider was present in the vehicle.
In the Olympia and Wayside shooting, police have said the driver had picked up a passenger before shots were fired into the vehicle, but publicly available details have not established who fired the shots or why.
Company response and investigative cooperation
Lyft has said it is cooperating with law enforcement in the Rosehill Avenue case and that the rider connected to that trip has been permanently banned from the platform. The company said it is working to reach the driver’s family to offer support.
How the public can help
Detectives are seeking information from anyone who may have witnessed either shooting or observed suspicious activity near the locations and times involved.
Investigators typically emphasize the value of home security video, doorbell camera footage, and vehicle dash camera recordings in reconstructing a suspect’s route and actions.
Anyone with information can contact the Cleveland Division of Police Homicide Unit or submit tips through local crime tip channels.
Police have not announced arrests in either case and continue to ask the public for information that could help identify those responsible.
