Friday Morning Traffic and Transit Overview

Commuters in Greater Cleveland should prepare for a mix of public transit adjustments and long-term highway construction constraints this morning, Friday, February 6, 2026. The most significant impacts involve a reduced frequency on the RTA Red Line and continued lane restrictions on the west side of the city. Travel times may be longer than usual for those utilizing the I-90 corridor and those relying on rail service into Downtown.

Public Transit: Red Line Frequency Alerts

The Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority (GCRTA) has issued a service alert for the Red Line. Trains are currently operating on a 30-minute frequency. This reduced schedule is expected to remain in effect through the end of service on Monday, February 9. Commuters who typically rely on the Red Line for travel between the airport, Downtown, and University Circle should plan for longer wait times and potential crowding during peak hours.

Additionally, travelers using intercity bus services should be aware that Greyhound, Barons Bus, and GoBus have fully transitioned to their new terminal at 17510 Brookpark Road as of earlier this week. This new facility is located adjacent to the Brookpark Rapid Station, providing a more seamless connection to GCRTA rail but shifting long-distance arrivals and departures away from the former Chester Avenue site.

Highway Construction and Lane Closures

Major roadway projects continue to affect several arteries across Cuyahoga County today:

  • I-90 Eastbound: Traffic remains reduced to three lanes between Hillard Blvd and Alger Rd. This pavement replacement project is a long-term fixture and is expected to cause bottlenecking during the morning rush.
  • I-77 (Broadview Heights): The Wallings Road bridge over I-77 is closed for replacement. Motorists are advised to use the established detour via Pleasant Valley Road, utilizing Brecksville Road to navigate around the closure.
  • State Route 176 (Jennings Freeway): Ongoing bridge deck replacement work continues on the northbound exit ramp to West 14th Street and Steelyard Road. This also affects access to I-71 southbound. Expect intermittent delays in the Steelyard Commons area.
  • I-90 Westbound: Drainage repairs near McKinley Road have resulted in the reduction of travel to three lanes.

Commuter Advice

With the Red Line running at half its usual frequency, commuters may find the HealthLine or alternative bus routes more efficient for shorter hops within the city. If driving, consider using the West Shoreway (SR 2) as an alternative to I-90 if traveling from the western suburbs toward Downtown to avoid the lane restrictions near Lakewood and Rocky River. As always, bridge work on Wallings Road means side-street congestion is likely in the Broadview Heights area; please allow an extra 10 to 15 minutes for local travel.
