The incident began on Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2026, when an East Cleveland police officer observed a vehicle being driven recklessly near the area of Hayden and Shaw avenues at about 11:34 p.m. Police said the vehicle failed to stop at a traffic control device and continued moving.

Police reported the officer activated lights and sirens and the vehicle stopped near Hayden and Alder avenues. When the officer opened the door to exit, the vehicle accelerated away, prompting a pursuit.

The Cuyahoga County Sheriff’s Office is leading the crash investigation after being asked to assist. Sheriff’s officials said their agency was not involved in initiating the traffic stop, conducting the pursuit, or operating the vehicle involved in the crash.
