Official Public Notice: Burke Airport Hearings, Health Advisories, and Infrastructure Updates

Public Hearings: The Future of Burke Lakefront Airport
Cleveland City Council has officially initiated a series of public hearings to evaluate the practical and financial implications of potentially closing Burke Lakefront Airport. These sessions, led by the Transportation and Mobility Committee, began on January 21, 2026, and are designed to scrutinize the potential for redeveloping the 450-acre site. Residents are encouraged to monitor the council's legislative calendar for upcoming hearing dates throughout the remainder of January. These meetings are broadcast live on TV20 and the official City Council YouTube channel.
Health Advisory: Respiratory Virus Update
The Cleveland Department of Public Health, in conjunction with state health officials, has issued an updated advisory regarding the current respiratory virus season. While data as of late January shows a slight decrease in hospitalizations for RSV, influenza, and COVID-19, officials warn that this relief may be temporary. This year's flu season is currently tracking significantly higher than 2024 levels. Health authorities strongly urge all eligible residents to stay up to date with vaccinations and to practice standard hygiene protocols as the region approaches the projected peak of the flu season.
