Official Notice: Cleveland Snow Emergency and Winter Service Updates

Public Service Announcement: Winter Storm Warning and Cold Weather Advisory
The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for the City of Cleveland and surrounding Cuyahoga County, effective from 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 24, 2026, until 10:00 a.m. on Monday, January 26. Heavy snowfall is expected to peak on Sunday, with accumulations between 8 to 14 inches possible. Residents are also advised of a Cold Weather Advisory currently in effect through Saturday morning, with wind chill values reaching as low as -10 to -15°F. Officials urge citizens to limit outdoor exposure and dress in multiple layers to prevent frostbite and hypothermia.
Emergency Parking Ban Effective Saturday Evening
The City of Cleveland has declared a Snow Emergency Parking Ban to facilitate efficient snow removal operations. The ban will be in effect from 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 24, through 7:00 p.m. on Monday, January 26. During this period, parking is strictly prohibited on all designated snow emergency streets, which are marked by red and white signs. Residents are encouraged to move vehicles to off-street locations or driveways. Any vehicles found in violation are subject to ticketing and towing at the owner's expense to ensure that salt trucks and emergency vehicles have clear passage.
GCRTA Winterization Plan Activated
The Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority (GCRTA) has activated its Winterization Plan as of Saturday, January 24. GCRTA snow trains are operating on the Red, Blue, and Green Lines to clear tracks and prevent ice buildup on overhead lines. Snowplows have been deployed to clear and salt RTA facilities, including parking lots and transit station sidewalks. Commuters should expect potential delays on both bus and rail lines due to the severe cold and accumulating snow. Passengers are encouraged to check real-time updates via the TransitApp.
City Hall Closure and Postponed Meetings
Due to the predicted severity of the incoming storm, Cleveland City Hall and the Public Auditorium will be closed on Monday, January 26. Consequently, the Cleveland City Council meeting originally scheduled for Monday evening has been postponed. Regular business hours are expected to resume on Tuesday, January 27, weather permitting. Additionally, the Urban Forestry Commission’s Winter Public Meeting has been rescheduled for Tuesday, January 27, at 4:00 p.m. in City Hall, Room 514.
