Major Highway Construction on I-77 and I-90; Ward 8 Pipeline Project Impacts Local Traffic

Tuesday Commute Overview
Good morning, Cleveland. For this Tuesday, February 17, 2026, commuters can expect relatively mild weather conditions with temperatures reaching 45°F and mostly cloudy skies. While we are clear of the significant winter storms from earlier this season, the spring construction schedule is already in full swing. Heavy delays are anticipated on major arteries, particularly on the south side and near the airport, as several multi-year infrastructure projects reach critical phases.
Major Highway Disruptions: I-77, I-90, and the Jennings Freeway
Commuters utilizing the I-77 corridor in Broadview Heights should prepare for significant delays. The Wallings Road bridge replacement project remains a major bottleneck; both the southbound entrance and exit ramps at Wallings Road are currently closed. This closure is expected to persist through April 2026. Motorists are advised to use Pleasant Valley Road as a primary detour, utilizing Brecksville Road to the east and Broadview Road to the west. Additionally, I-77 under the bridge has various lane and shoulder restrictions.
On the west side, I-90 eastbound between Hilliard Blvd and Alger Road is reduced to three lanes for ongoing pavement replacement. This project, which stretches through the Rocky River and Lakewood areas, often causes morning congestion that can back up toward the Innerbelt. Meanwhile, for those coming from the south via the Jennings Freeway (SR-176), the northbound exit ramp to West 14th Street and Steelyard Drive remains closed for bridge deck replacement. Drivers should follow posted detours toward I-71 or alternate neighborhood routes.
Local Traffic Advisory: Ward 8 Pipeline Work
Within the city limits, a new infrastructure project by Enbridge Gas Ohio began yesterday in Ward 8. Work crews are replacing pipeline infrastructure on East 91st Street (from St. Clair Avenue to 763 E. 91st) and East 92nd Street (from St. Clair to Hillcock Avenue). Work is scheduled daily from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. While two-way traffic is being maintained with the help of control personnel, the work zones and presence of heavy machinery will likely cause localized slowdowns. This project is slated for completion by April 2026.
Airport and Public Transit Alerts
Travelers heading to Cleveland Hopkins International Airport (CLE) should allow at least an extra 20 minutes for drop-offs. The tunnel rehabilitation project on the Lower Roadway (Arrivals) is ongoing, restricting pickups and drop-offs to doors 5, 6, and 7. Airport officials strongly recommend using the Upper Roadway (Departures) for all passenger transfers to avoid heavy congestion.
On the rails, the Greater Cleveland RTA is currently celebrating "Ohio Loves Transit Week." While service is largely running on a standard Tuesday schedule, commuters should check for minor alerts on bus routes 1, 2, and 3, as well as the HealthLine, where local maintenance may cause slight deviations from the timetable.
