Commuter Alert: Significant Relocations and Roadworks for Wednesday

Good morning, Cleveland. Today, Wednesday, February 4, 2026, marks a pivotal day for regional travel and urban infrastructure. Commuters and travelers alike should prepare for a major shift in intercity transit and the commencement of significant highway modernization projects that will impact daily routines across the city and suburbs.

Intercity Bus Terminal Relocation

The most significant change for travelers today is the official closure of the historic Greyhound station on Chester Avenue. As of this morning, Barons Bus, Greyhound, and GoBus have moved all primary operations to the new intercity bus terminal located at 17510 Brookpark Road. This new facility is situated immediately adjacent to the Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority (GCRTA) Brookpark Rapid Station. While these carriers will maintain a curbside stop downtown on East 12th Street (between Rockwell and St. Clair Avenues), all ticket services and primary arrivals/departures are now handled at the Brookpark site. Travelers are encouraged to utilize the RTA Red Line for seamless connections between the new terminal and downtown.

Innerbelt and Highway Construction

On the highways, the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) has officially launched the next phase of the Innerbelt-Central Interchange modernization. This massive reconstruction of the Interstate 90 corridor between Tremont and the lakefront is now entering a period of active work. Drivers should expect lane shifts and narrower paths through the Central Interchange with I-77. Specifically, keep an eye on the section of I-90 from East 9th Street toward Carnegie Avenue, where bridge realignment work is beginning. In the southern suburbs, long-term work continues on the Wallings Road bridge replacement. Wallings Road remains closed between West Mill and Mill Roads, with associated ramp restrictions on I-77. Commuters should continue using Pleasant Valley Road as the primary detour route.

RTA Service and Transit Updates

The GCRTA reports specific service adjustments today that riders should keep in mind during the morning and evening rush. Current alerts indicate that Blue and Green Line riders must transfer to the Red Line for travel between Tower City and the East 55th Street Station. Additionally, for those seeking career opportunities in the transit sector, the GCRTA is hosting a Bus Mechanic Hiring Event throughout the day today at their main facilities. Beyond these adjustments, the Port of Cleveland has confirmed the successful stabilization of the Irishtown Bend hillside. While this secures the Cuyahoga River shipping channel, construction vehicles and equipment remain active near the Superior-Detroit Bridge area as the project transitions toward its future park development phase.
