Jeffrey and Lanaemarshe Grant convicted in Cleveland killing of 10-year-old Kaden Coleman during 2025 shooting

Verdict in fatal backseat shooting
Jeffrey Grant and Lanaemarshe Grant were found guilty on all charges in connection with the shooting death of 10-year-old Kaden Coleman, a Cleveland boy killed while seated in the back of a vehicle on the city’s East Side.
The case centered on a Feb. 7, 2025 shooting that occurred as a 35-year-old man was backing a vehicle out near East 174th Street and Edgewood Avenue. A 36-year-old woman was in the passenger seat and her son, Kaden Coleman, was in the backseat. Investigators said multiple rounds were fired into the vehicle, and Kaden was struck in the head.
The driver and the child’s mother drove directly to Cleveland’s Fourth District police station, where emergency responders transported Kaden to University Hospitals Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital. He died from his injuries several hours later.
How investigators tied the case together
Authorities said the shooting involved a rental car and two suspects: Jeffrey Grant and an unidentified male who has not been publicly named. Investigators later executed a search warrant at a Maple Heights residence on Feb. 10, 2025, and arrested Jeffrey Grant and Lanaemarshe Grant.
During the search, authorities reported finding a drug lab in the basement and more than 550 grams of cocaine. Prosecutors previously said surveillance footage, clothing and the rental vehicle were among the items used to link the defendants to the homicide investigation.
Charges and court timeline
A Cuyahoga County grand jury indicted the pair on Feb. 19, 2025. Jeffrey Grant, who was 34 at the time of indictment, faced a range of homicide counts and additional charges tied to drugs and weapons disabilities. Lanaemarshe Grant, 33 at the time of indictment, was charged with involuntary manslaughter and drug- and weapons-related offenses.
The case proceeded to a jury trial in Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court that began on Feb. 2, 2026, before Judge Michael Shaughnessy. The guilty verdicts resolve the core question of criminal responsibility for Kaden Coleman’s death, while leaving broader investigative questions about the unidentified second suspect unresolved in public court reporting to date.
