Saturday Traffic Overview

Cleveland commuters and visitors should prepare for a mix of event-driven congestion and long-term construction projects this Saturday, February 14, 2026. While morning traffic is expected to remain light, significant delays are anticipated in the afternoon and evening hours as Valentine's Day celebrations and major events at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse draw thousands downtown.

Major Highway Work and Lane Restrictions

Drivers using the main arteries should be aware of several ongoing ODOT projects that will impact travel times:

  • I-90 (West Side): Major rehabilitation continues between Hilliard Boulevard and West Boulevard. Specifically, I-90 eastbound is reduced to three lanes between Hilliard and Alger Road for pavement replacement. Expect lane shifts and narrow 10-foot lanes in this zone.
  • I-77 (Broadview Heights): The I-77 southbound entrance and exit ramps at Wallings Road remain closed for bridge replacement. Wallings Road itself is closed between West Mill Road and Mill Road, with detours directed to Pleasant Valley Road.
  • Cleveland Hopkins International Airport: Construction on the Lower Roadway (Arrivals) is ongoing. Pickups are limited to doors 5, 6, and 7. Travelers are encouraged to use the Upper Roadway (Departures) for all drop-offs to avoid the heaviest congestion.

Downtown Event Alerts

Heavy localized traffic is expected in the Gateway District and St. Clair-Superior neighborhood due to the following:

  • Monster Jam: With multiple shows scheduled at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse this weekend, expect heavy volume on Ontario Street and Huron Road throughout the afternoon.
  • Kurentovanje Parade: The annual Slovenian festival will cause rolling closures in the St. Clair area for the 5K Dash and parade. Motorists should avoid the East 60s and St. Clair Avenue between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.
  • Valentine's Day: High demand for parking is expected near Playhouse Square and East 4th Street starting at 5:00 p.m. for holiday dining and theater events.

Public Transit Updates

The Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority (GCRTA) has issued the following service alerts for Saturday:

  • Red Line: Rail service is currently operating on a reduced 30-minute frequency until further notice due to equipment impacts from recent cold weather.
  • Bus Reroutes: Route 1 (St. Clair) will be rerouted during the morning and early afternoon to accommodate the Kurentovanje festival.
  • Blue and Green Lines: Trains are operating on a regular weekend schedule, though riders should check for potential delays at the Tower City hub.
