Cleveland Commute Overview: Tuesday, March 10, 2026

Commuters in the Greater Cleveland area should prepare for a mix of weather-related slowdowns and significant construction-related shifts today. With light rain forecasted throughout the day and into the evening, roadway surfaces are expected to remain slick, potentially increasing travel times during the peak afternoon rush. Temperatures are holding steady in the high 50s, but the damp conditions combined with ongoing major corridor projects will require extra caution from drivers on the I-90 and I-77 arteries.

Major Highway Alerts and Ramp Closures

The most significant impact for the evening commute involves the Jennings Freeway. According to the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT), the ramp from SR 176 northbound to I-90 westbound will be completely closed tonight, Tuesday, March 10, starting at 9:00 p.m. This closure is scheduled to remain in place until 5:00 a.m. Wednesday morning. Motorists are advised to use the posted detour: take SR 176 north to I-90 east, exit at Broadway Avenue, and then re-enter I-90 westbound.

On the West Side, the I-90 Major Rehabilitation project continues to affect traffic flow between Hilliard Boulevard and West Boulevard. Specifically, I-90 eastbound between Hilliard and Alger Road remains reduced to three lanes. Drivers should anticipate merging delays, particularly as rain reduces visibility today. Further south, the I-77 and Wallings Road interchange remains a major construction zone, with both the southbound entrance and exit ramps to Wallings Road closed through the spring.

RTA Service and Local Roadwork

Public transit riders should be aware of ongoing local construction affecting bus routes. The W. 210th Street project continues today, closing the stretch between Lorain Road and Center Ridge Road from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. This impacts the #22 Lorain and the #55-55B-55C Cleveland State Line. Both routes are following active reroutes via Wooster Park and Spencer Road.

In positive news for transit users, the Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority (GCRTA) has recently fully launched its new Commuter Alerts pilot program. Rail riders can now receive real-time text or email updates for any service disruptions exceeding ten minutes. This system is recommended for those using the Red, Blue, or Green lines today to stay ahead of any weather-related rail delays.

Commuter Advice

  • Watch the Ramps: If you are heading home late tonight via the Jennings Freeway, plan your detour through Broadway Avenue in advance.
  • Reduced Speeds: Rain is expected to persist into the overnight hours; give yourself extra following distance on I-90 and the Shoreway.
  • Airport Travel: For those heading to Cleveland Hopkins, TSA wait times remain under 15 minutes at the Central Checkpoint, though some secondary checkpoints are currently closed.
