Cleveland judge denies bond for 20-year-old charged in fatal shooting of Lyft driver Antoine Latham

Bond denied as aggravated murder case moves toward preliminary hearing
A Cleveland Municipal Court judge has denied bond for a 20-year-old man accused of fatally shooting a Lyft driver on Cleveland’s East Side, keeping the defendant in custody as the case proceeds through early court stages.
The defendant, Derrek Dove, 20, of Garfield Heights, is charged with aggravated murder, a first-degree felony, in the death of Antoine Latham, 56, of Cleveland. Latham was shot on Sunday night, Feb. 8, 2026, while driving in the 10200 block of Rosehill Avenue, a residential stretch on the city’s East Side.
What police have confirmed about the shooting
Police have said officers were dispatched shortly before 10 p.m. after a report of a vehicle crash. At the scene, they found a vehicle that had struck a guardrail outside a home. Investigators determined the driver had suffered a gunshot wound. Latham was taken to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Cleveland police have said the case is being handled by the department’s homicide investigators and that detectives have been working with the rideshare company as part of the investigation.
Arrest and evidence collection
Police announced Dove’s arrest on Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2026. Investigators have said the arrest followed the execution of a search warrant and that multiple firearms were recovered and collected as evidence.
Authorities have not publicly detailed what led detectives to Dove, nor have they said whether he was the person who requested the ride. Police stated they had probable cause to believe the defendant was responsible for the shooting.
Next steps in court
A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for 8:30 a.m. on Feb. 23, 2026. At that hearing, prosecutors are expected to outline the evidence supporting the charge, and a judge will determine whether the case should proceed to a higher court for possible indictment and additional proceedings.
Separate investigation after two drivers were killed within roughly a day
Latham’s death was followed by the fatal shooting of another Lyft driver in Cleveland less than two days later. Police have said the two incidents occurred within about 27 hours of each other but that investigators do not believe the cases are connected.
Police said they were aware of community concerns about a possible connection between the two killings, but investigators have stated they do not currently view the cases as linked.
