Busy Legislative Calendar at City Hall

Cleveland City Hall is set for a full day of legislative activity today, Monday, February 9, 2026. With a series of committee hearings scheduled for the morning and afternoon leading up to the regular evening session, council members are prepared to tackle issues ranging from public health grants to urban development and historic preservation.

Morning and Afternoon Committee Sessions

The day begins at 9:30 a.m. with a meeting of the Health, Human Services, and the Arts Committee. Officials from the Department of Public Health and Community Development are scheduled to provide a critical update regarding lead-poisoning prevention and the status of lead-related grants. Additionally, the Assembly for the Arts will present a report on its ongoing efforts to support local cultural organizations across the city’s wards.

Later this afternoon, the Finance, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee will meet at 2:00 p.m. to review departmental budgets and pending legislation before the full council session. Both committee meetings will be held in the Mercedes Cotner Committee Room and are open to public attendance and broadcast via the city’s standard digital channels.

Evening Council Agenda: Landmarks and Infrastructure

The regular meeting of the Cleveland City Council is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers. A primary item on tonight’s agenda is an emergency ordinance to designate the Second Mount Olive Baptist Church, formerly the St. John’s Lutheran Church, as an official Cleveland Landmark. This move is part of a broader city-wide effort to preserve historic structures that serve as anchors for neighborhood identity.

Council is also expected to vote on infrastructure-related legislation, including:

  • Parking Subfunds: An emergency ordinance to establish specific subfunds for the deposit and remittance of New Community Authority parking charges at city-owned facilities.
  • Zoning Changes: A proposed ordinance to change the use, height, and area districts for parcels of land north of Herman Avenue, between West 65th and West 58th Streets, to accommodate new residential and commercial development.
  • Special Event Permits: Approval of permits for upcoming 2026 events, including the Cleveland Clinic VeloSano cycling event and the Patrick Joyce Fund 5K.

Mayor’s Second-Term Initiatives

These sessions come as Mayor Justin Bibb continues to push the "Cleveland ERA" initiative in his second term. While today’s meetings focus largely on legislative housekeeping and local development, they reflect the administration's ongoing efforts to modernize city services and streamline the bureaucratic process for infrastructure improvements and public health safety. Residents interested in providing testimony or attending the evening session are encouraged to arrive at City Hall early to clear security.
