City Council Budget Hearings: Finance and Equity Focus

Cleveland City Council continues its intensive review of the Mayor’s estimate budget for the 2026 fiscal year. Today, Thursday, February 19, the Finance, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee will convene at 9:00 AM in the Mercedes Cotner Committee Room (Room 217) at City Hall. This session is part of a series of hearings intended to refine community priorities before the final budget adoption. Residents are encouraged to monitor these proceedings as the committee evaluates departmental funding and resource allocation. The hearings are broadcast live on TV20 and the official City Council YouTube channel for those unable to attend in person.

5-Year Consolidated Plan: Needs Assessment Workshop

The Department of Community Development is hosting a vital public workshop today to gather input for the City’s 5-Year Consolidated Plan (2026-2030). This plan dictates how millions of dollars in federal funds—including the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) and HOME Investment Partnerships—will be utilized over the next half-decade. The workshop will take place from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the May Dugan Center, located at 4115 Bridge Avenue. This session is a critical opportunity for residents to voice concerns regarding housing, homelessness, and neighborhood revitalization needs.

Infrastructure Update: Ward 8 Pipeline Replacement

Maintenance work continues on the Enbridge Gas Ohio pipeline infrastructure replacement project in Ward 8. Active construction zones are established along East 91st Street (east side from St. Clair Avenue to 763 East 91st) and East 92nd Street (west side from St. Clair to Hillcock Avenue). Work hours are scheduled today from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. While two-way traffic is being maintained with the help of flaggers, travelers are urged to use caution. Temporary sidewalk restorations are in place where permanent concrete work is pending weather improvements this spring.

Public Health: Proposed Updates to Lead Safe Certificates

The Cleveland Department of Public Health and the Mayor’s administration have introduced a proposal to update the 2019 Lead Safe Law. The new initiative aims to reward compliant landlords by extending the validity of lead-safe certificates from two years to five years for properties that have successfully passed three consecutive inspections. Public Health Director Dr. David Margolius noted that this shift would allow the city to focus enforcement resources on higher-risk properties. These technical updates are currently under review by city officials and stakeholders.

Service Reminder: Regular Waste Collection Schedule

The Department of Public Works confirms that waste and recycling collection services are operating on a regular schedule today. Despite the recent President's Day holiday earlier this week, there are no delays in pickup for the remainder of this cycle. Residents should ensure bins are placed at the curb by their usual morning deadline to ensure service.
