City Notice Roundup: Committee Meetings, Forestry Updates, and Winter Safety Advisories

City Council Committee Meetings
The Cleveland City Council has scheduled a meeting for the Development, Planning and Sustainability Committee today, Tuesday, January 27, 2026. The session is set to begin at 9:30 a.m. in the Mercedes Cotner Committee Room 217 at City Hall. Key agenda items include an emergency ordinance to designate the Kamm’s Corners Bank Building (formerly the Cleveland Trust Company West Park Branch) as an official Cleveland Landmark. Additionally, the committee will discuss amendments to city ordinances regarding hearing fees and time extensions before the Board of Building Standards and Building Appeals. Residents can monitor the proceedings live via the City Council’s YouTube channel or through the local TV20 broadcast.
Urban Forestry Commission Public Meeting
The Urban Forestry Commission (UFC) will hold its rescheduled Winter 2026 Public Meeting this afternoon, Tuesday, January 27, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Originally slated for earlier in the month, the meeting was moved to this date to ensure full participation. The session will be held in Room 514 at Cleveland City Hall. Members of the community are welcome to attend in person or view the meeting virtually via the Sustainable Cleveland YouTube page. For those wishing to provide public comment in person, sign-up is required at least five minutes prior to the start of the meeting.
Winter Weather Operations and Salt Shortage Advisory
The Department of Public Works continues to operate under a regional salt shortage advisory following the recent winter storm. Due to delayed deliveries from state-contracted suppliers, the city is currently prioritizing salt application for main thoroughfares, bridges, hills, and emergency routes near hospitals and schools. While city crews will continue to plow all residential streets, these areas may not be salted immediately. Motorists are advised that secondary roads may remain slippery or snow-covered longer than usual and are urged to allow extra travel time.
Health officials also remind the public that an extreme cold advisory remains in effect for the morning of January 27, with wind chill values reaching as low as -25 degrees. Residents are encouraged to check on elderly neighbors and ensure pets are kept indoors. Warming centers at the Michael Zone, Sterling, and Collinwood recreation centers are available during normal business hours for those in need of a temperature-controlled environment.
Public Comment: Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure
The City of Cleveland, in coordination with the Northeast Ohio Areawide Coordinating Agency (NOACA), is currently seeking public feedback on the proposed installation of electric vehicle (EV) charging stations. The project involves placing four Level 2 chargers at the Michael Zone Recreation Center and four at the Sterling Recreation Center. The public comment period remains open through February 6, 2026. Residents can review project details and submit their views at the Department of Community Development in City Hall.
