Official Notice: 2026 General Fund Budget Hearings

The City of Cleveland is currently conducting its annual budget hearings for the 2026 fiscal year. Mayor Justin M. Bibb transmitted the draft budget to City Council earlier this month, outlining a General Fund operating budget of $920 million. While formal hearings in the Mercedes Cotner Committee Room are held on weekdays, the public notice remains active for all residents. Citizens are encouraged to review the proposed estimates for city departments, including Public Safety and Public Works, via the City Council’s official website or YouTube channel. Public input is vital as the Council works toward the April 1 approval deadline.

Traffic Advisory: Ward 8 Pipeline Infrastructure Replacement

Residents in Ward 8 are advised of an ongoing pipeline infrastructure replacement project by Enbridge Gas Ohio that commenced this week. The project affects East 91st Street (St. Clair Avenue to 763 East 91st) and East 92nd Street (St. Clair Avenue to Hillcock Avenue). While crews typically operate Monday through Friday, work zones remain established with temporary concrete caps and sidewalks. Drivers should expect intermittent traffic control personnel and are urged to use caution when navigating these construction areas. The project is slated for completion in April 2026.

Ongoing Construction: Carnegie Avenue Rehabilitation

The Carnegie Avenue Rehabilitation Phase 2 project remains active between East 79th Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. The City continues to maintain one lane of traffic in each direction (westbound and eastbound) to facilitate the reconstruction of the southern portion of the roadway. This major infrastructure improvement is expected to continue through November 2026. Additionally, residents should prepare for upcoming lane closures on MLK Jr. Drive scheduled to begin early next week for the ISEB construction project.

Public Service Announcement: SNAP Work Requirements

The Cleveland Department of Public Health and local social service agencies remind residents that new federal work requirements for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) took effect on February 1, 2026. Impacted individuals in Cuyahoga County must meet specific employment or training criteria to maintain benefits unless they qualify for a disability or medical exemption. Residents who have received notices regarding their status are encouraged to contact the county’s Job and Family Services office to verify their eligibility and explore available resources.

Health Advisory: American Heart Month

The Cleveland Department of Public Health recognizes February as American Heart Month. Officials are urging residents to take advantage of free cardiovascular screenings and nutrition workshops available at city health centers. In light of recent winter temperature inversions that can trap pollutants near ground level, the department also recommends that individuals with respiratory conditions monitor local air quality reports before engaging in strenuous outdoor activities this weekend.
